I am getting an error when I try to install the Mobile Lifeline Agent software, what's wrong?
There may be one of a few reasons why you are getting the error:
1 - You are not connected to the Internet
2 - A "Personal Firewall" such as Zone Alarm may need to be inoculated against our product to let our product connect. Usually these applications will prompt you.
3 - In some very restrictive corporate environments, some or all outgoing "socket" traffic is blocked. If this is the case, we recommend one of the following:
a - Having the IT Department "enable" our traffic to be let out.
b - If the computer can connect in alternative ways, such as with a modem, dsl, or other method, try to do that. The logic being that a stolen laptop will seldom connect to the Internet behind a restrictive corporate environment, and be much more likely to connect with a dial-up connection or in a small business/home office environment.
4 - There was a very early version of Windows95 which requires a free update from Microsoft to run software such as ours. It can be downloaded at Microsoft's Windows95 Update Site.
When I tried to install the Mobile Lifeline Agent on WinNT/2000, I got an error about not being able to write to the registry, or not able to complete the install... what caused it?
You must be logged in as a user with "Local Administrator" permissions to the computer during the install process. Most users have this. If you think that you may not, contact your network administrator for assistance. The software will protect your computer no matter who (or if nobody) is logged in, you only need administrator privileges while installing the software.
